Donald Trump threatens Elon Musk with ‘very serious consequences’ if he decides to do this one thing amid feud

During a recent interview with the New York Post, President Trump threw subtle yet pointed shade at his former tech ally Elon Musk, delivering a sharp five-word zinger: “Nothing catches me by surprise.” Once close collaborators in Trump’s political revival, Musk even held a tongue-in-cheek role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency, abbreviated DOGE. However, their alliance took a sharp downturn after Musk publicly criticized Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” a sweeping tax reform measure recently passed by the Republican-led House. Musk called the bill an “abomination,” prompting a swift and fiery rebuttal from Trump. Trump defended the legislation vigorously, telling the New York Post, “He was fully briefed on the bill. It’s a terrific bill — it’s going to benefit everyone, including him.” Trump highlighted strong job numbers and a surging stock market as evidence of the bill’s success. The tension worsened when Musk posted, then deleted, a controversial claim on X alleging Trump’s involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein files. In a follow-up interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker, Trump confirmed their friendship had soured, stating, “I would assume so, yeah.” He expressed no plans to speak with Musk, asserting he was focused on more important matters and reminded that he had supported Musk during his first term, even crediting himself with saving Musk’s career.

Trump also issued a veiled warning to Musk, cautioning him against supporting Democratic candidates. “If he does, there will be consequences,” Trump said, hinting at repercussions that might extend beyond political rhetoric, given Musk’s involvement with major government contracts. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the rift on CNN, suggesting Musk’s dissatisfaction stemmed from the bill not aligning with his preferred policies. She praised the bill’s focus on slashing government waste and fraud, an area Musk had recently commended.

Leavitt, appearing later on Hannity, acknowledged Musk’s right to voice his opinions but emphasized Trump’s responsibility to defend the American people. “Elon’s a businessman and can voice his opinions,” she said. “But President Trump has a duty to stand up for the American people.” The evolving feud between the former allies highlights the tensions within Trump’s circle and Musk’s complicated role at the intersection of business and politics.
