DOJ Probe Into Biden’s Handling of Classified Docs Ends With No Charges

The U.S. Department of Justice has decided not to press charges against President Joe Biden for his handling of classified documents discovered at his Delaware home and former office. However, a report from Special Counsel Robert Hur is expected to criticize Biden’s actions, possibly including photos that raise concerns about how the materials were stored. While this decision removes a significant legal threat ahead of Biden’s reelection campaign, it may still carry political ramifications due to perceived mishandling and delayed disclosures. Hur’s findings, commissioned by Attorney General Merrick Garland, are anticipated to be released soon and could fuel further scrutiny, especially among critics who argue Biden was treated leniently.

In comparison, former President Donald Trump is facing federal charges for mishandling classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence, where he is accused of obstructing recovery efforts. Trump’s team did not cooperate with investigators, in contrast to Biden’s team, who voluntarily provided access. Trump’s legal troubles continue to mount, and his trial may now be delayed beyond the 2024 election, following Judge Aileen Cannon’s denial of a motion to compel disclosure of his defense strategy. The stark contrast in legal outcomes between the two cases has intensified partisan debate, with each side pointing to unequal treatment. Nonetheless, the Justice Department’s differing assessments center on intent and cooperation—factors that may influence how voters view each candidate’s actions.
