Deadly Minnesota Shooting Targets Democratic Lawmakers — Trump Responds
President Donald Trump expressed sympathy after a deadly shooting in Minnesota targeting Democratic state lawmakers. The shooter, 57-year-old Vance Boelter, allegedly impersonated a police officer and killed Minnesota House Democrat Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband. State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were also shot but survived.
Before Boelter’s identity was publicly confirmed, Trump, via White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, condemned the attack:
“I have been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which appears to be a targeted attack against State Lawmakers. Our Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and the FBI are investigating the situation, and they will be prosecuting anyone involved to the fullest extent of the law.”
He added, “Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America. God Bless the great people of Minnesota, a truly great place!”
Investigations revealed Boelter’s connection to a private security firm and use of “police-type” vehicles to carry out the attack. A hit list with Democratic officials’ names and anti-Trump protest materials found in his vehicle suggest political motives. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called it a “politically motivated assassination.”
Former NFL player Jack Brewer criticized state leadership, calling Minnesota “the capital of chaos,” and urged a return to traditional values to combat rising political extremism.
