Many everyday activities come with age restrictions, such as driving or booking a hotel room. Interestingly, some believe there’s also an age limit for wearing jeans. According to fashion experts and data cited by a UK courier company, CollectPlus, people may want to reconsider denim after age 53. This insight stems from a survey of 2,000 shoppers who shared their clothing habits, including their search for the perfect jeans. The findings revealed that while this isn’t about fashion rules, it’s simply harder to find jeans that fit well past a certain age. Many over 50 reported trying on several pairs without success, and some even experienced high levels of stress while shopping for denim.
In fact, jeans shopping seems to be universally challenging. The study noted that one in ten shoppers over 50 tried on up to six styles before finding the right fit. Stress levels reportedly peak by age 53, with 6% of participants admitting to crying out of frustration. Regardless of age, however, finding the perfect pair of jeans is notoriously difficult. Research shows that people spend between five to eight days searching and often wait up to three years before buying a new pair. Despite the challenges, if you still love wearing jeans into retirement, there’s no reason to stop—style is personal, and comfort should come first.
