Gonzalez-Duran was sentenced to 35 years in prison and ordered to forfeit $792 million for trafficking vast quantities of cocaine and marijuana into the U.S. The DOJ detailed his role in violent cartel operations, including bribery, arms trafficking, and control over drug corridors. Authorities previously seized a massive weapons cache from a warehouse linked to him. His conviction, part of “Operation Take Back America,” highlights the federal government’s broader strategy to target transnational criminal organizations and protect American communities. The DOJ reaffirmed its commitment to prosecuting cartel members and disrupting narcotics routes along the U.S.-Mexico border, warning other foreign terrorist-designated groups of serious consequences.
