FBI Director Kash Patel recently claimed that the FBI concealed investigations related to Hillary Clinton during her 2016 presidential campaign, accusing former Director James Comey of acting independently in deciding not to prosecute Clinton over her use of a private email server. Patel argued that Comey overstepped his authority by bypassing the Department of Justice, and further alleged that Clinton’s campaign helped promote the false Trump-Russia collusion narrative to divert attention. He accused Comey of intentionally omitting investigative details and misrepresenting prosecutorial decisions, particularly during a 2016 press conference where Comey stated that no reasonable prosecutor would bring charges against Clinton. Patel contends that the timing of the email investigation’s reopening just before the election had significant political consequences, and claimed new information reveals that the Trump-Russia investigation was similarly flawed and manipulated under Comey’s leadership.
Deputy Director Dan Bongino supported Patel’s claims, stating that evidence from Comey’s era was recently uncovered in an overlooked room within the FBI. He emphasized that some of the discovered materials had bypassed standard archival and classification procedures and that efforts are underway to declassify them. However, Bongino noted that certain documents are controlled by other intelligence agencies, limiting what can currently be made public. He asserted that the contents could be shocking once revealed. Bongino also criticized Comey for allegedly hiding documents and referenced a cryptic Instagram post by Comey believed by some officials to be a veiled message directed at former President Trump, involving the coded numbers “8647.”
