Micaela, a remote worker, sends her husband Travis off to his office Christmas party with a playful message written on his chest: “This is my husband — touch him, and you’ll pay – M.” Since Travis is a lightweight with alcohol, it was meant as a light-hearted joke. When he returns home intoxicated later that evening, Micaela notices someone had scribbled a response to her note on his chest: “Keep the change.” Initially, she laughs it off, but the message lingers in her mind throughout the night.

The next day, Travis explains the party’s events, claiming they moved from the office to a bar, and finally a club. When asked about the message, he shrugs it off, saying one of his coworkers probably wrote it while they were drinking. However, Micaela remains unsettled. Instead, she tells Micaela, “You deserve better,” adding that “husbands like this deserve to be treated like spare change.” Travis reacts angrily, but Micaela walks away, ignoring his protests. When she returns to her car, she finds a text from her mother—with the contact info for a divorce lawyer.
