Authorities in Dundee, Michigan, are investigating the mysterious deaths of Cameron Hulet, 28, and Courtney Hulet, 20, who were found unresponsive at their kitchen table. The unsettling discovery was made late at night after a neighbor, concerned that the couple had not moved for hours, contacted police. When officers arrived, they found the pair seated at the table as if they had suddenly collapsed mid-activity.
Initial reports suggest the couple had been preparing to eat Taco Bell when they died. Strangely, the food remained untouched. A neighbor who had stopped by around 9 p.m. believed the couple was simply asleep. However, when she returned later and noticed nothing had changed, she called the authorities. Upon arrival, police found no signs of trauma, forced entry, or a struggle.
Investigators uncovered approximately one pound of marijuana on the table, suggesting that the couple may have been dividing it for distribution. While this raised questions about possible drug involvement, no immediate cause of death could be determined. An autopsy and full toxicology screening have been ordered to uncover whether poisoning, overdose, or another medical factor was involved.
Police Chief Todd Opperman referred to the case as a “puzzle,” given the absence of external injuries or clear foul play. The circumstances, including the untouched food and the suddenness of the deaths, have left investigators and the local community baffled. Until toxicology results are in, authorities are unable to confirm or rule out drug-related causes.
The Hulets had only recently relocated to Dundee and were known to local child welfare services. Their two young children had previously been removed from their care by Child Protective Services. Cameron reportedly had a criminal record including marijuana possession and assault, though it is unclear if any past activity is linked to their deaths. The case remains open as authorities continue their efforts to piece together the events that led to this tragic and unexplained loss of life.
