During Coldplay’s recent concert in Boston, an unexpected “kiss cam” moment went wildly viral—spawning what many initially believed to be a real-time cheating scandal. As frontman Chris Martin entertained the crowd, the big screen zoomed in on a man with his arms around a woman. But instead of smiling for the camera, the man abruptly ducked out of view, while the woman tried to cover her face.
Chris Martin couldn’t resist commenting. “Oh, look at these two,” he joked mid-performance. “Oh, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re just really shy.” That remark, captured on video, quickly racked up millions of views online.
Internet sleuths wasted no time identifying the pair as Andy Byron, CEO of New York-based tech company Astronomer, and Kristin Cabot, the firm’s Chief People Officer. What was assumed to be a romantic evening between two consenting adults suddenly exploded into what many believed was a corporate affair exposed in real time.
Within hours, a supposed “public apology” surfaced on social media, attributed to Byron. The now-viral statement read like a confession: “I want to sincerely apologize to my wife, my family, and the team at Astronomer… You deserve better from me.” It even ended with a Coldplay lyric: “Lights will guide you home… and I will try to fix you.”
However, the plot twisted again. The statement was not real. It had been posted by an account belonging to a person calling himself Peter Enis of CBS News—a name that turned out to be a crude pseudonym. The post was later tagged with a community note clarifying that “Peter Enis does not exist at CBS News,” and the account was previously labeled as parody before the label was removed to mislead readers.
In a statement to TMZ, Astronomer confirmed the apology was fake and unaffiliated with the company or its executives.
While the kiss cam moment remains real—and Martin’s offhand quip continues to circulate—the viral scandal appears to be part fact, part fiction, and entirely fueled by the internet’s appetite for drama. As for Byron and Cabot? Neither has made an official comment.
