What began as a romantic honeymoon in the scenic hills of Shillong turned into a horrifying tale of betrayal and murder.
On May 20, businessman Raja Raghuvanshi arrived in Shillong with his new bride, Sonam, to celebrate their recent marriage. The couple appeared happy, and no one could have predicted the tragedy that would unfold.
Just days later, Raja’s decomposed body was found in a remote ravine. His identification documents and wedding ring were missing, raising immediate suspicion of foul play.
Initial investigations pointed to Raj Kushwaha, a man rumored to be having an affair with Sonam. But further inquiry revealed something even darker—Sonam wasn’t just complicit, she was the mastermind.
Police allege that Sonam manipulated Raj by promising him love and a future together. Once she gained his trust, she persuaded him to participate in a plot to kill her husband.
To carry out the plan, Sonam and Raj enlisted three more accomplices: Vishal Singh, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput. Authorities say she promised them money in exchange for Raja’s murder.
Sonam used GPS tracking to monitor her husband’s location and guide the killers’ movements. Sometime between May 23 and 24, the group ambushed Raja and pushed him from a steep hillside, causing his death.
The betrayal didn’t end with Raja’s murder. Raj, believing he would be with Sonam after the crime, returned to Indore. But Sonam had already moved on to a new romantic interest.
Shockingly, police believe Sonam was plotting to kill Raj next, possibly to erase any ties to the murder and avoid exposure.
The case took a critical turn when investigators examined digital evidence. Phone records clearly placed Sonam at the center of the conspiracy.
On June 8, police arrested Sonam. During questioning, she confessed to orchestrating the entire murder plot, confirming the horrifying details uncovered by authorities.
This case has left the community stunned—not only by the brutality of the act, but by the chilling betrayal at its core. A celebration of love turned into a calculated plan for murder, driven by manipulation, deceit, and cold ambition.
