Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Dies After 20 Years in a Coma
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – July 19, 2025
Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has passed away at the age of 36, following nearly two decades in a coma resulting from a tragic car accident in London in 2005.
The prince suffered severe brain damage and internal bleeding as a teenager during the accident. Despite immediate medical treatment, he never regained consciousness and remained on life support at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh for the remainder of his life. His long-term condition earned him the nickname “The Sleeping Prince.”
His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, announced the prince’s death in a public statement, expressing sorrow but faith in God’s will:
“We mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him… with hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree.”
In 2019, there were brief moments of hope when the prince reportedly moved his head and raised a finger, showing limited signs of awareness, though never a full recovery.
Following the announcement of his passing, an outpouring of condolences flooded social media. The Global Imams Council released a statement offering prayers and sympathy to the Saudi Royal Family:
“We extend our deepest condolences… on the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, who passed away after a long struggle.”
Individuals also shared heartfelt messages:
“May Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled rest in peace.”
“Your time on earth was a blessing to your family and the world in general.”
“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
Funeral prayers are scheduled to be held at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
Prince Al-Waleed’s strength through years of silent suffering remains a symbol of enduring family devotion and resilience.
