When Mel Gibson was offered the role of William Wallace in Braveheart, he immediately sensed its significance. “It was a very haunting piece of work,” he recalled, and the emotional weight of the script lingered with him long after reading it. Though originally approached to act in the film, Gibson couldn’t walk away—he felt compelled to direct. “I just felt I had to tell this story.”

To authentically deliver a Scottish accent, Gibson sought guidance from none other than legendary Scotsman Sir Sean Connery. “You just pick up the accent from the people you’re talking to,” Gibson explained, sharing a humorous anecdote about Connery’s distinctive way of saying “goulash.”

While Braveheart solidified Gibson’s status as a Hollywood powerhouse, he remained fiercely private about his personal life. The actor-director has nine children, among them Milo Gibson—who would later carve out his own acting career, albeit unintentionally at first.

Milo didn’t grow up aiming for stardom. Before acting, he worked as a massage therapist and an electrician. “My dad always said to do what you love,” he said in an interview. “And I really love acting.”

His breakout came in Hacksaw Ridge (2016), directed by his father. From there, Milo steadily built a name for himself with roles in The Tribes of Palos Verdes (2017), All the Devil’s Men (2018), and Dangerous (2021), earning recognition as a rising action star.
