Jeanine Pirro, U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., recently met with former President Donald Trump at the White House to discuss growing concerns over crime in the nation’s capital. After the meeting, she declared a strong crackdown on gun violence, drug trafficking, and carjackings, warning that those who don’t cooperate “will have to deal with us.”

Trump’s renewed focus on D.C. safety comes after a violent carjacking incident involving Edward Coristine, a well-known government efficiency advocate and internet personality. Coristine and his partner were attacked by a group of teens near midnight. Police arrived to find 10 youths surrounding the car; two 15-year-olds were arrested, but several others escaped.

The incident has reignited Trump’s calls for federal control over the city. In a post on Truth Social, he described Washington as “totally out of control,” criticizing the release of violent juvenile offenders and stating that teens as young as 14 should be tried as adults.

Elon Musk, former DOGE chief, supported Trump’s sentiment by highlighting Coristine’s bravery in defending the woman during the assault. He emphasized the need for federal intervention and accountability in D.C. leadership, arguing that criminals feel emboldened under current conditions.

Though violent crime is reportedly down 26% from last year, recent incidents—like the fatal shooting of a congressional intern—fuel perceptions of growing danger. Trump has consistently expressed frustration with D.C.’s limited self-governance and warned of taking action to restore order.

Senator Mike Lee echoed Trump’s stance, proposing the revocation of D.C. Home Rule through the “BOWSER Act,” allowing Congress to reclaim authority over city governance. He called for Washington to become a global model of safety and stability, not a symbol of dysfunction.
