Donald Trump releases a statement following his remark to President Zelenskyy, telling him he’s ‘gambling with World War III’ during a heated discussion at the White House.

President Donald Trump released a statement on his Truth Social platform after a tense meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on February 28. The two leaders, accompanied by Vice President JD Vance, discussed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in the Oval Office. During the heated exchange, Trump warned Zelenskyy, saying, “You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people! You’re gambling with World War III!” Trump criticized Zelenskyy for being in a “bad spot” and lacking leverage in negotiations.

Trump later posted online, stating that the conversation revealed emotions that showed Zelenskyy wasn’t ready for peace if the U.S. was involved, as Zelenskyy viewed American involvement as a negotiating advantage. Trump emphasized his desire for peace, not advantage, and accused Zelenskyy of disrespecting the U.S. in the Oval Office.

The meeting ended without a press conference, and the White House affirmed America would never be taken advantage of.
