Police Label Gene Hackman and His Wife Betsy Arakawa’s Death as ‘Suspicious’ – Details

Authorities are investigating the suspicious deaths of legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, found in their Santa Fe home on February 26, 2025. A maintenance worker discovered the couple after noticing the front door was ajar. Police found no signs of forced entry or trauma, but the deaths were labeled suspicious due to other unsettling details, such as a missing dog and scattered pills near Arakawa’s body.

Both were found in separate rooms with no clear cause of death, and Hackman, 95, was found with a cane and sunglasses nearby. Initial autopsies revealed no external trauma, and further tests, including toxicology and carbon monoxide analysis, are being conducted.

Hackman, known for his roles in The French Connection and Unforgiven, had retired to Santa Fe, where he lived with Arakawa. The cause of their deaths remains unclear as investigations continue.
