Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to meet with President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday, just days after Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. The meeting is expected to focus on potential pathways to ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.

According to Russia Today, Zelensky has rejected Trump’s push for an immediate peace deal, insisting that a ceasefire must come first. During a press conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine needs full transparency on Russia’s demands before entering broader negotiations.

Trump has stated that a full peace agreement—not just a temporary ceasefire—is the best solution to the war. In a Truth Social post, he said that Zelensky’s visit to Washington could pave the way for a trilateral summit with Putin, depending on how discussions unfold.

Zelensky acknowledged the potential value of a three-way meeting and expressed appreciation for the opportunity. In a post on X, he confirmed Trump had shared the main points of his discussion with Putin and noted that American leadership has a significant influence on the conflict’s direction.

The White House has also invited European leaders to join Monday’s meeting with Zelensky. While Trump claimed progress was made in his talks with Putin, no concrete agreements were announced. He framed the Alaska summit as a step toward deeper negotiations that would eventually include Ukraine in the decision-making.

Despite prior tensions—such as Trump and Vice President JD Vance criticizing Zelensky earlier this year for lacking gratitude—the upcoming meeting marks a renewed diplomatic effort. Putin, speaking in English, invited Trump to Moscow for the next round of talks. Both leaders described their recent conversation as constructive, with Trump hinting at further steps toward resolving the conflict.
