Kate Kaufling, a cherished sophomore nursing student at the University of Kentucky, passed away after a courageous battle with osteosarcoma. She was 20 years old. Born in 2003, Kate was an active member of the university’s dance team and the Tri Delta sorority, sharing many experiences with her twin sister, Abbey, who was also on the dance team. Abbey shared her grief on Instagram, writing, “My sweet Kate, you were my person.”
Kate was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2023. Despite the challenges of her illness, she remained dedicated to her studies, inspiring those around her with her perseverance.
Sandy Bell, the university’s executive associate athletics director, remarked, “Kate was not only a great dancer but also a dedicated student in the College of Nursing who took her work very seriously.”
Dawn Walters, head dance coach, added, “Her smile could light up a room, and everyone on the UKDT loved her. We are all deeply saddened by Kate’s passing.”
Kate’s parents, Holly and Steve, along with her sister Abbey, will miss her dearly. Her memory lives on through the countless lives she touched, the friendships she nurtured, and the example of courage and positivity she showed to everyone around her.
