Former U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber, found dead Saturday in her Virginia home, is believed to have died of natural causes, authorities told the New York Post.
A family friend told NBC News that police suspected a medical issue as the likely cause of death. Additionally, two former senior Justice Department officials confirmed that local law enforcement does not suspect foul play.
Alexandria police stated on March 25, “At this time, detectives have found no evidence suggesting that her death was caused by anything other than natural causes.”
The investigation remains open until the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) issues a final ruling on the cause and manner of death.
Aber earned recognition during her tenure for prosecuting CIA leaks and cases involving Russian nationals committing fraud in the U.S. She stepped down when President Trump assumed office on January 20.
Authorities said any further details regarding the cause of her death will come from the medical examiner once the investigation concludes.
