An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 struck near Townsville, North Queensland, just after 9:30 pm. Geosciences Australia confirmed the tremor, and British CEO Brenn Clinton shared that his daughter, staying at a hotel in Townsville, was evacuated.
She had never experienced an earthquake before and FaceTimed him during the evacuation.
Geosciences Australia advised anyone in need of help to contact local emergency services. Last year, a hotel in nearby Cairns had to evacuate after a helicopter crashed into the roof, causing a fireball. Two guests were hospitalized, and emergency services evacuated 300 to 400 people from the Double Tree Hotel by Hilton.
