Shocking videos of a FedEx Boeing 767-300 bursting into flames went viral on social media Saturday morning. The plane, which took off from Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, suffered a bird strike on its right engine shortly after departure. A loud boom was heard, and the engine erupted in flames.
The flight, bound for Indianapolis, was forced to return to Newark for an emergency landing. The plane was airborne for about nine minutes before landing safely at 8:07 am. No injuries were reported.
Onlookers captured footage of the flaming plane, and the FAA is investigating the incident. This event recalls the 2009 Miracle on the Hudson, where Captain Sully Sullenberger safely landed a plane after a bird strike.
