Republican senator is ‘sick to her stomach’ over Trump’s ’embrace’ of Putin after White House Zelensky meeting

Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski expressed disgust over what she perceived as a shift toward Russia under the Trump administration, following a tense Oval Office meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Murkowski, a centrist Republican who voted to impeach Trump, criticized the encounter, calling it a “complete utter disaster,” while some GOP members, like Secretary of State Marco Rubio, supported Trump’s “America First” policy.

Murkowski feared Trump’s actions could lead to withholding $4 billion in security aid for Ukraine. She condemned the administration for seemingly abandoning U.S. allies and aligning with Russian President Putin, labeling this stance a threat to democracy and U.S. values.

Her comments came as European leaders discussed alternative strategies for handling the Ukraine conflict.
